Our Art Students Make a Positive Impact On Their Community
Yearly Arts Night
Every spring, all art students take part in the school's annual Arts Night. Typically held on a Thursday evening in May, this exhibition is a tremendous celebration of the students' creative exploits and the work that has been created throughout the year. Every student that is enrolled in an art class chooses at least one piece of art work to put on display, and they are tasked with matting and labeling their work so it looks professional. Students also are responsible for other aspects of the show, such as creating advertisement, providing refreshments, helping set up, and helping take down the show. While the hallway is filled with student work, the art studio rooms are also quite lively with "resident artists," students who are working on projects as people cycle through, sharing the process with patrons.
Community Art Displays
Student work is regularly displayed throughout the school and is changed out on a routine basis. Art students help create a positive climate in their school by being able to have their work displayed for the student body, faculty, administrators and staff.
Additionally, the LHS Art Department has showcased student work in several exhibitions outside of the school including the following shows:
*Young at Art Exhibition- Mystic Museum of Art
*ECC Regional Show- Norwich Free Academy
*CAEA Exhibition- Central Connecticut State University
National Art Honor Society
In 2016, a chapter of the National Art Honor Society was started at LHS. Members participate in a multitude of community service projects every year, all based on giving back to the community through the visual arts. To learn more about our NAHS chapter, visit their website or their Twitter.
