Course Description
Ceramics II is a more advanced approach to the creation of both functional and non-functional ceramics through hand building and the use of the potter’s wheel. (Three electric wheels are available for student use.) Emphasis is on craftsmanship in both form and surface treatment. Students will be given an opportunity to set up and follow through on independent projects. Ceramics II is a half-year, half credit course.
Students are expected to have a solid foundation in ceramics and a serious and independent work ethic. Suggested pre-requisite is a C or better in Ceramics I at Ledyard High School, or teacher recommendation.
An opportunity exists for students to take Ceramics III. Ceramics III is a course for serious ceramic students who will be expected to create a body of work that focuses on hand building or wheel thrown techniques through student-driven research. Students will have the opportunity to set up and follow through with independent projects with the guidance of the teacher. Students will create an online portfolio of the work they create during the semester. Each student will present the portfolio and their artist statement in a lecture format, which will include visuals, research and other information to further educate their peers. Ceramics III is a half-year, half credit class.
